Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani Raises More Than $1 Million in Under 10 Days for Transition to Build a City Hall Ready to Deliver on Day One

More than 12,000 people donated to Mayor-elect Mamdani’s transition fund — average contribution of just $77

NEW YORK, NY — In less than ten days, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has raised more than $1 million for his transition fund, laying the groundwork for an administration ready to deliver on his affordability agenda on day one. 12,707 people donated, with an average contribution of just $77.65. Thousands of New Yorkers are chipping in to help build the incoming administration, reflecting a City Hall that is by and for everyday New Yorkers.

In contrast, during Mayor Eric Adams’ transition, he had just 884 individual donors, with an average donation of more than $1,000, and former Mayor Bill de Blasio had 820 individual donors, with an average donation of $2,392.

This milestone follows last week’s announcement that, less than a week after Mayor-elect Mamdani launched his transition’s Resume Portal, more than 50,000 New Yorkers applied to join his team. The portal allows any New Yorker interested in working in the Mamdani administration to submit their resume directly to the transition team. The overwhelming response underscores the excitement behind building a government that delivers for working New Yorkers.

“None of this would have been possible without everyday New Yorkers willing to spare $5, $10, or $20 to help build a government that will deliver for working people,” said Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. “I’m grateful for every dollar New Yorkers have contributed to make this vision of an affordable, more livable city a reality.”

The transition team is led by Co-chairs Grace Bonilla, Lina Khan, Maria Torres-Springer, and Melanie Hartzog, and Transition Executive Director Elana Leopold. Mayor-elect Mamdani tasked his transition leadership team with building a government of public servants that will drive down costs and keep all New Yorkers safe. Mamdani Transition leaders are experienced public servants with deep expertise across critical areas of government that impact every New Yorker.

“More than 12,000 New Yorkers are contributing to this transition to turn the page on the politics of the past and build a new era for New York City,” said Elana Leopold, Executive Director of the Transition. “Thanks to New Yorkers’ support, we will be ready on day one with top talent in place and ready to deliver.”

The funds raised by the transition fund will primarily support hiring and retaining staff responsible for building out the new administration and ensuring the excellence in every appointment to deliver on his affordability agenda.
